The Heart Behind City Helpers
From Stroke Survivor to Community Builder: My Journey to Empower Independence Through City Helpers Inc.
In 2022, my life changed forever. I suffered a stroke that left me not just physically challenged, but emotionally and socially isolated. Like many stroke survivors, I faced a mountain of new limitations, but one challenge caught me by surprise — how hard it was to get help with everyday chores.
Simple tasks I once did without thinking — cutting the grass, trimming hedges, cleaning the garage, moving heavy boxes — suddenly became impossible. I searched for assistance, but time and again I ran into walls: expensive services, long wait times, or worse, no help at all. I felt helpless in my own home.
But that helplessness lit a fire in me.
Instead of accepting this as my new reality, I turned it into a mission. I founded City Helpers Inc., a company built on one simple idea: No senior or stroke survivor should feel alone or stuck when it comes to maintaining their home and independence.
City Helpers connects seniors and homeowners with local, vetted workers who are looking to earn extra income by doing small tasks. Whether it’s yard work, clearing out a garage, or painting a room, we match people in need with people who are ready to help. We also connect our users with reliable local businesses for bigger projects, taking the guesswork and stress out of finding trustworthy services.
But this is more than a business — it's a movement. It’s about restoring dignity, independence, and community connection to those who have been left behind by traditional service models. It's about giving people hope in their recovery and creating work opportunities at the same time.
I believe my story — of turning post-stroke hardship into purpose — resonates with stroke survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders everywhere.
I am honored to share this journey with you and help inspire others to transform adversity into impact.
Because strokes change lives. But with the right support and the right connections, survivors can still lead, create, and give back in powerful ways.
Let’s talk about how we can build stronger communities — one job at a time.
